Students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 are given the opportunity to develop computer skills on a regular basis, in a state-of-the-art computer lab. Computer literacy is integrated into the daily application of the curriculum and all students receive formal instruction that includes word processing, keyboarding, internet, and programs aimed at reinforcing language, math and science skills. The computer software library consists of both French and English programs that are constantly being updated and upgraded.
At the Junior and Senior High levels the ICT curriculum does not stand alone as a course. Instead, it is infused within English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Students learn about the nature of technology, how to use it and apply a variety of technologies, and the importance of technology to self and society.
At CFIS, we recognize that in order to maintain our place as a leader in French Immersion education, we must embrace technology and maximize its potential within the pedagogy of this language program. Our Director of Technology works hand in hand with our in-house technology specialist on the planning, implementation and maintenance of all technology related aspects of our school.
Grade 1-5 classrooms have computers in the classroom. The school has both an elementary school and a separate Junior/Senior High computer lab, each equipped with 25 new iMacs. Computer lab is part of the regular curriculum for all Grade 1-5 students. Access to MacBooks is also available to teachers to integrate technology in their teaching outside of scheduled computer lab time. All CFIS classrooms from Grade 3-12 have projectors for multimedia presentations.
