CFIS programmes go beyond the academics to develop
well-rounded global citizens of the future.
Our rigorous academic program is taught in a full French Immersion environment - from Preschool to Grade 12. CFIS programmes go beyond ensuring the students are fully fluent in Canada’s two official languages - students also gain a functional literacy in Spanish such that they will have the language skills to pursue post-secondary studies in one, two or all three of these languages. As a school, we give students the opportunity to use these three languages in meaningful ways both in classroom situations and outside the classroom. We educate beyond the realm of the curriculum providing a world rich in learning experiences, from character education, the languages and sciences to arts and athletics. Our small class-sizes and programmes immerse students in an educational setting that promotes personal achievement.
The importance and benefit of physical education are well proven. CFIS offers a full curriculum for physical education from Kindergarten through to Senior High School. CFIS extensive physical education programmes are supported by dedicated specialists and access to state-of-the-art athletic facilities – gymnasia and equipment. We offer students in Grades 5 and higher additional exposure to athletics through Intramurals and competing on the CFIS Vikings interscholastic athletic teams.
CFIS teaches students to be accountable for their learning, their attitudes and their behaviours. For our Senior High students, we are committed to the Advanced Placement programme as it provides students with an opportunity to challenge themselves in an area or discipline in which they may have a particular strength or curiosity. Outside of the formal curriculum, students have opportunities to participate in other activities on a voluntary basis. These extra-curricular areas include the arts, sports and clubs with emphasis on development of leadership abilities.
Continuous improvement is not just for our students! As a school we ensure our programme is current and guided by best practices. Curriculum Coordinators at each grade level from Preschool through Grade 9 work with colleagues at their respective grade levels to establish long range plans summarizing what is taught, when, using which learning resources/learning strategies, and identifying how students achievement is measured. In addition to regular updates in the monthly newsletter, they provide instructional leadership in the areas of curriculum implementation, professional development, learning and teaching resource acquisition, and student assessment.
