Athletics

CFIS offers students in Grades 5 and higher the opportunity to further their athletics through Intramurals. Junior and Senior High students may participate on a variety of CFIS Vikings athletics teams which compete within the Calgary ISAA.

Interscholastic Athletics

Junior High/Senior High Interscholastics Sports

Gr7SoccerTeamJunior and Senior High Vikings sports teams are part of the Independent Schools Athletic Association (ISAA) league. The objectives of the league are to promote among students an awareness that the primary aim of school is education and that athletics provide significant social, cultural and emotional values. As members of the ISAA, CFIS Vikings sports teams compete in the following disciplines:

  • Cross-Country Running
  • Volleyball
  • Basketball
  • Badminton
  • Soccer
  • Track & Field
  • Golf

 

Intramurals

After-School Athletic Program (Grade 5-6)

IntramuralsCFIS offers an in-house after-school athletics programme for Grade 5 and 6 students. This programme allows the athletes to develop their knowledge and skills in various sports. Those involved in all facets of the programme are expected to demonstrate respect for others, good sportsmanship and dedication.

Students have the opportunity to participate in the following sports during the school year :

  • Basketball
  • Handball
  • Floor Hockey
  • Ringette
  • Volleyball
  • Badminton
  • Soccer
  • Track and Field

 

Facilities

Athletic Facilities

facility5CFIS currently offers sports and recreation facilities for student, community and public use including:

  • Two community-use double full-sized regulation gym and physical fitness complexes with:
    • Full change room/washroom area
    • Wood sprung floor suitable for competition
    • Adjustable basketball hoops suitable for various levels of competition
    • Bleachers for 60 people (Junior/Senior High gym) and an upper mezzanine level for 80 people
    • Electronic scoreboard
  • International sized soccer field (or two junior soccer fields)
  • Junior baseball diamond for organized sports and general community-use
  • Two playgrounds - one for Preschool/Kindergarten and a larger one for Elementary
  • Open playing fields

The School works actively with community groups to ensure that its facilities benefit the greatest number of people. We are excited to be able to offer use of our recreational facilities in order to benefit our extended community family. By maintaining our Public Private Partnership (P3) approach, we are dedicated to being an active and positive part of our community.
