BOARD MEMBER BIOGRAPHIES

 

SCOTT McLEMAN

Scott McLeman is a partner with Gowlings LLP. He has been practicing law in Calgary and Vancouver since 2004 after receiving his law degree from the University of British Columbia. Prior to becoming a lawyer, and after graduating from UBC with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geomorphology, Scott worked for two national Canadian corporations in management and environmental oversight. He has expertise in the areas of business planning, finance, fundraising, governance, project management, and strategic management.

Scott is a member of the Law Society of Alberta, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Calgary Bar Association, and a non-practicing member of the Law Society of British Columbia.

Scott is a director for the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association and a trustee for the Canadian Athletic Foundation Board, and volunteers with Wood's Homes. He was also a hockey coach for the “Top Guns” in AAA Spring Hockey from 2006 to 2008, and a member of the CFIS Society’s Board of Directors for three years.

Scott and his wife have two children who attend the Calgary French & International School, one in primary and one in secondary.

 

 

CHRIS PERKS, B.Comm., MBA

Managing Director & Group Head, Energy - Corporate Credit, CIBC

  • Managing Director of CIBC in the Canadian Corporate Credit Products group in Calgary with responsibilities including origination and execution of credit transactions in the energy sector supported by a team of 10 professionals dedicated to the sector.
  • Responsible for roughly 65 energy clients in Canada and the US for whom credit commitments aggregate to roughly C$10 billion.
  • Sector specialization includes conventional oil & gas, oil sands, shale natural gas, CBM, LNG, pipelines, midstream/downstream oil & gas operations, and power generation.
  • Significant bank debt-financing experience, having executed numerous project and corporate finance transactions over the past 15 years in the energy sector.
  • Joined the Corporate Credit Products Energy Group (Calgary) in 1996 with original commencement with CIBC in 1988 (Edmonton).
  • Past executive board member and Treasurer of the Alberta Chamber of Resources (2000 – 2010) and current President & Chair of the Calgary International Language Foundation (2005 – present).
  • Bachelor of Commerce with distinction from McGill University of Montreal
  • Master of Business Administration from University of British Columbia in Vancouver
  • Two children attending the Calgary French & International School

 

OLIVIA WOO, MBA, CFA

Olivia Woo is a Senior Portfolio Manager within the Private Client Management team at Mawer Investment Management Ltd., which she joined in 2008. Prior to joining Mawer, Ms. Woo was a Vice President at TE Investment Counsel. Previous to that, she worked for TD Private Investment Counsel in Vancouver and HSBC Securities in Toronto and New York. Ms. Woo earned her MBA in Enterprise Development from the University of Calgary, and her Commerce degree from the University of Toronto. She is a CFA charter holder and is a member of the CFA Institute and the Calgary CFA Society.

Ms. Woo has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Calgary International Language Foundation for five years (since November 2006), and also serves on the Board of the Wings of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation. She has two children at the Calgary French & International School, in Grades 3 and 4.

 

FRANCES YUEN, B.Comm., MBA

Frances Yuen has been a Senior Advisor of Corporate Finance with Suncor Energy Inc. (and former Petro-Canada) since 2007. She has over 15 years of banking experience, with a variety of roles of increasing responsibility in account management and national pricing. Ms. Yuen has served on the Commercial Real Estate Women (Calgary) Network, the Alberta College Board of Governors and the Bank of Montreal’s Vice President’s Advisory Council. She has a background in finance, business and strategic planning, project management and governance. She obtained her Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) degree from the University of Manitoba and earned her MBA from Concordia University in Montreal.

Ms. Yuen has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Calgary International Language Foundation since November 2007. She has two children enrolled at CFIS.
